Exceptional retail experiences are still rare. Online shopping continues to grow, and smart retailers understand that their store's website is another channel for brand building and customer engagement, even if they choose not to sell there. But nothing beats the immersive experience of arriving at a store and being enticed inside by the display. In June I was in New York City at my favorite store, the inimitable Bergdorf Goodman (BG). It's a must see for anyone interested in the retail business. Visit it at any time of year for the best that money can buy, but summer is a time for hordes of Post-Covid tourists not only in the Big Apple but in small out of the way towns across the country. I would not typically see a relationship between a world renowned retailer, like BG, and a small Virginia vintage store, but this summer I did. Nature happened to be a unifying theme for both the sophisticated New York City emporium's Decorative Home department, and a small town vintage store in the Town of Marshall in Northern Virginia. Each store brilliantly brought the natural world to life by collecting and displaying items for sale that illustrated the lushness, color, and pattern of the natural world. If you didn't know, I'm telling you that Visual Merchandising - the art of display at its best, makes a world of difference. Take a look at the video from Bergdorf's and carousel of photos taken from the sidewalk in front of Marshall Curated Vintage, and share you thoughts in the comments section below.
